My Approach

A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.

David Brinkley

Again and again, the impossible decision is solved when we see that the problem is only a tough decision waiting to be made.

My Approach

When I work with a client, I often use a combination of all three techniques – coaching, mentoring, and consulting. I find that this is the ideal pathway to progress for a small business.

What determines my predominant approach is the personality, receptivity, and experience of my client. My approach is also affected by how seriously the problems impact the profitability of the company and how much time we have to cure them.

Most business owners seem to prefer the coaching approach, in which they are led to recognize problems and guided to find solutions for them. Most owners do not like to be told what they should or should not do, especially since they have put their heart and soul into the business and are emotionally invested in it.

Sometimes, however, this doesn’t work as well as another approach. A client may have vast expertise in his own specialty area – the reason he got into the business in the first place – but little to no experience with the everyday challenges of running a business, such as branding, carrying out an aggressive marketing campaign, creating a realistic business plan, writing a mission statement, effectively managing people, and coping with the ups and downs of cash flow.

When time is of the essence, I put on my consultant hat and tell my client what needs to be done to provide immediate solutions to his business problems.

I believe you will feel comfortable with whatever approach I use, because I will always have your best interest in mind. Whatever advice and suggestions I offer, all decisions are ultimately yours to make. It is your company.

My goal is to present my recommendations in such a clear way that you will recognize how they can be advantageous to your company and will want to move forward with them.
